New York, NY – The Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations has issued a strong condemnation of recent threats by the United States to use force against the Islamic Republic of Iran. In a special communiqué released on March 25, 2025, the group stated that it “unequivocally rejects” the U.S. government’s threats, expressing serious concern that such rhetoric could undermine international peace, security, and the rule of law.
The Group of Friends emphasized that these threats violate fundamental principles of international law, including the sovereign equality of states and the prohibition of the threat or use of force as outlined in Article 2 (4) of the UN Charter. The group stressed the importance of adhering to the UN Charter to maintain international peace and security.
The communiqué further called for an immediate cessation of these threats, highlighting the necessity of resolving disputes through peaceful means. The member states of the Group of Friends expressed their solidarity with the people and government of Iran.
