Iran is commemorating the 24th anniversary of the passing of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Sayed Rouhollah Mousavi Khomeini.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iranians across the country and abroad are holding mourning ceremonies to mark the decease of Imam Khomeini.<\/span><\/p>\n

A large number of people and officials gathered at Imam Khomeini\u2019s Mausoleum in the south of the Iranian capital, Tehran, for a commemoration ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei addressed the gathering.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every year, millions of Iranians from across the country travel to Tehran to pay tribute to the late founder of the Islamic Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rouhollah Mousavi Khomeini, who came to be known as Imam Khomeini, was born in the town of Khomein on September 24, 1902.<\/p>\n

Imam Khomeini changed the lives of Iranians and inspired people from other countries by guiding one of the greatest revolutionary movements of modern history to victory.<\/p>\n

Ayatollah Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, eleven days after he was taken to hospital for an operation to stop internal bleeding in May 1989.<\/p>\n

With the passing away of Imam Khomeini, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was elected the Leader of the Islamic Revolution by Iran\u2019s Assembly of Experts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
