Isfahan, Iran – The Islamic Republic of Iran executed four individuals convicted of terrorist crimes on March 8, 2023. The executions were carried out in accordance with the country’s legal framework, which permits the death penalty for the most serious crimes.

The executions were met with mixed reactions. Some people praised the government for taking action against terrorists, while others expressed concern about the death penalty.

The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, a widely recognized international treaty that sets standards for the protection of fundamental human rights, permits the death penalty for the most serious crimes. However, the treaty also requires that the death penalty be imposed only in accordance with the law and that it not be used against people who were under the age of 18 at the time of the crime.

In the case of the four individuals executed in Iran, they were all adults and were convicted of crimes that are considered to be among the most serious under Iranian law. As such, the executions appear to be in compliance with international law.
